THE CLEANEST MATCHA

Updated: Apr 8, 2020

Okay friends, I think it's NO secret that matcha is abslute magic.

Green tea is such a potent super food -- with the tea leaves packed with so many benefits. I started drinking matcha about 5 years ago, but in the past year have really kicked it up. Coffee used to be my go-to, and now it's matcha. No judgement against coffee (I do still enjoy it sometimes!), but I truly just can't get enough of everything that matcha has to offer me. I also feel like it doesn't give me the caffeine jolt that coffee used to. Match is SO easy to love, with the following health perks (to name just a few).

MATCHA BENEFITS

  • packed with antioxidants

  • boosts metabolism

  • detoxifies effectively and naturally

  • calms the mind, relaxes the body

  • rich in fiber, chlorophyll and vitamins

  • enhances mood

  • aids in concentration

  • high in vitamin C

  • rich in magnesium

  • high in selenium, chronium, zinc

  • aids in preventing disease

  • lowers cholesterol via catechins

  • associated with decreased cancer risk

MATCHA AND CANCER PREVENTION

According to the National Cancer Institute, the predominant polyphenols in green tea -- EGCG, EGC, ECG and EC, are what provide the potent antioxidant activity. the EGCG and ECG have substantial free radical scavenging activity, which protects cells from DNA damage caused by reactive oxygen species.

We also know that tea polyphenols have been shown to inhibit tumor cell proliferation, as well as induce apoptosis in lab and animal studies. Other studies have shown that tea catechins inhibit angiogenesis and tumor cell invasiveness. Green teas have been shown to active detoxification enzymes, as well as modulate the immune system function.

In 2003, the University of Colorado published a report about the potency and concentration of EGCG, a powerful anti-oxidant found in green tea. The researchers found that Matcha green tea contained up to 137 times more EGCG than regular green tea. WOW. According to this study, matcha green tea causes cancer cells to die. Amazing! And according to this study, it suppresses inflammation and aggressive estrogen mediators in breast tissue.

Matcha is associated with preventing DMA damage, as well as suppresses stem cell production in human breast cancer. Need I say more? Even beyond it's association with cancer prevention, there are too many benefits of matcha to count!

HOW I MAKE MY MATCHA

1. Buy or make my own nut milk. If you do dairy - that works, too!

2. Heat the milk in a small pot. Add a serving of Pique matcha powder.

3. Once heated to desired temp, I blend it briefly in my vitamix. Because #foamlife.

My morning matcha routine gives me so much LIFE.

I drink matcha lattes at least every other morning, if not more. If I don't make a matcha latte, I usually add the matcha directly to my green smoothie in the morning. To me, green tea is one of the healthiest beverages you can drink.

THE MATCHA I RECOMMEND: PIQUE TEA

Tea can be so healing and powerful, but it's important to be aware of where your matcha is sourced. This is important for anything, and especially tea since the leaves absorb so much. Tea can actually be full of pesticides and toxins. Tea bags can even dump loads of microplastics into your brew -- yikes!

That's why I love matcha, since it's not in a tea bag. But some matcha, even organic matcha, might not be the highest quality. Some teas even have concentrations of aluminum in it, which is a neurotoxin and one we want to of course limit in our body.

It's important to find a source that has been safety tested. For example, against heavy metals, fluoride, pesticides, toxic mold and radioactive isotopes.

I found one company that has done just that, so that is the brand that I will use from now on. Pique Tea took 18 months to undergo a quadruple screen for all of that. Their tea comes from a farm located in Japan, right next to the "Blue Zone"-- coined for human longevity.

Pique's matcha teas are shaded up to 35% longer, which creates a much higher level of l-theanine, which is known as nature's "chill pill"(mood stablizing). It also ups the "creamy" factor of the matcha, which I love. Give me all the creaminess and all the foam life.

GOOD NEWS for all of us: this week Pique is actually offering 15% off of their Sun Goddess Matcha, which I for one will be stocking up on! They are also providing free shipping! Order via that link, and of course let me know what you think. I would only recommend a brand to you that 1. I am using and love, 2. I believe in, and 3. I believe could support your health!

I'm packing matcha for our road trip next week; I truly can't live without it. There are SO many life giving and healing benefits, not to mention -- a foamy matcha latte is a DREAM.

Cheers friends. Enjoy your matchas, take advantage of a deal on the cleanest green tea around, and let me know what you think! Happy shopping.
